Not Written by Disciple

It is now generally agreed that the last twelve years of the last chapter of the Gospel according to St. Mark were never written by the great disciple at all. The original papyrus is thought to have crumbled away. An unknown scribe copying it found that it ended on the ominous note, “For they were afraid,” so he wrote in the last 12 verses himself to end the Gospel on a more hopeful note. In the Vatican Bible there is a space left for these 12 I verses.
