SCHOOL ATHLETICS

WHAKATANE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL NEW RECORDS ESTABLISHED The annual athletic sports of the secondary department of the Whakatane District High School were concluded recently. Actually events had been in progress for a week before in addition to Sports day itself, and then wet weather held up the completion of the four remaining events. Competition was particularly keen in the junior grades on account of the large number of third form pupils, but most finishes were well contested, and the spectators witnessed a good day’s sport. The outstanding competitors were Maureen Eivers who set ‘ two new records for the senior girls, and H. Coker who won all, the senior boys’ events from 100 yards to the mile, and also the hop, step and jump championship. The following are the results:—
