COAL FOR FRANCE
SHIPMENTS FROM MANY COUNTRIES AMERICA CHIEF SUPPLIER At a .recent meeting the European Coal Organisation fixed the percentage of coal to be received by tne various European countries for the next term. France’s share, which amounted to 26.3 per cent, in Feb-ruary-March, has been increased to 2D.8 per cent, for the second quarter. These figures apply to Pool A, that is to say, the regular deliveries. There were 11,735,500 tons to distribute—6,9oo,ooo from America, 2,400,000 from Germany, 1,730,000 from Poland and 750,000 from other sources.
. Out of this total France will receive 3.138,000 tons—2,loß.ooo from Ameiica, 6'u4,700 from Germany, 210,000 from Poland, 99,000 tons from Belgium, 31,000 from the Nethei'lands and 6000 tons from Czechoslovakia.
North Africa will receive 220,000 tons; 159,000 tons from America, 25,000 tons from Germany, 20,000 tons from Turkey and another 16,000 tons from America for a safety reserve.
For the first time France will receive a share from Pool B, which allocates coal under special contracts specifying the industrial use that the coal is to be put to. Out of the 213,300 tons to be distributed France will receive 64,700 tons for her fei Miser, glass and soda industries.
