WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT WHAKATANE . The monthly meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute was held in the Methodist Hall on April Ist, Mrs Cantrell presiding over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the Institute Song and Aspirations. Apologies were received and two new members enrolled and welcomed. A minute's silence was observed as a mark of respect to the memory of our late member, Miss F. Ramson. The business included nominations of Mrs Comer as Institute representative meeting of the A. and P. Show, Mrs Barker and Mrs L. Martin as delegates to the Council meeting, and Mrs Little John as representative to the Country Library meeting. Mrs Moran read a report of the parcels she had dispatched for the Institute to England.
Remits from other Institutes were discussed. All enjoyed the entertainment which was arranged by Mrs Stewart of items from the Eisteddfod, singing by the Glee Circle, solo by Mrs N .Carter, Folk Dancing and Elocution by Mrs Stewart.
Afternoon tea was served. Mrs Sutcliffe then farewelled one of our members, Mrs Attwood, and made a presentation. Mrs Attwood in her reply stated how happy she had been during her years of Institute membership. The meeting was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
Competition results were as follows: A, Peach Jam, Mrs E. J. Patterson 1, Mrs K. Needham 2. B, Best Flower, Mrs N. Martin 1, Mrs R. P. Shaw 2. C, Best Onion, Mrs Hirst 1, Mrs R. P. Shaw 2.
