PICKLED PELTS
PUBLIC AUCTION PRICES BRITISH BUYERS ACTIVE The New Zealand Meat Producers Board advises that the Second Public Auction of Pickled Sheep and Lamb Pelts under the Pickled Sheep and Lamb Pelts Emergency Regulations 1947, was held in Wellington on March 26. Offerings totalled 132 lots comprising 44,613 dozen, sheep and 144,706 dozen lamb pelts. A full bench of 28 buyers were present. Whilst competition remained keen, bidding was more subdued than at the previous sale. Buyers operating on behalf of United Kingdom and American interests dominated the sale and secured the major portion of the offerings.
The full range of prices realised was as follows: Auckland District: Sheep 121 s to 129 s per dozen; lamb 82s to 87s per dozen. Hawke’s Bay-East Coast: Sheep 110 s to 120 s per dozen; lamb 76s to 87s per dozen. Wellington-West Coast: Sheep 116 s 6d to 131 s 6d per dozen; lamb 83s 6d to 93s per dozen. Picton-Nelson: Lamb 73s to 73s 6d per dozen. Canterbury-Otago: Sheep 101 s 6d to 112 s per dozen; lamb 81s 6d to 93s per dozen. Southland: Lamb 86s 6d to 90s 6d per dozen.
The third sale will be held at Wellington on Wednesday, April 30. Offerings close at the office of the New Zealand Meat Producers Board on Monday, April 14. The sales are being conducted by the New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association under the control of the Pelt Controller, Mr J. J. Evans, General Manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board.
