GALATEA PARS

BUS SERVICES CANCELLED Health Department Transfer After'spending a very short period as District Nurse in the district Miss Kinder has been transferred to Dunedin. She has been replaced by Miss Abercrombie of the Health Department who has for some days been doing the founds with Miss Kinder acquainting herself with her new territory. She officially takes up her duties at the beginning of this month. Bus Services Easter Holidays The cancellation of both the Friday’s and the Monday’s bus from this district to Whakatane over the coming Easter holidays has upset the plans of visitors desiring to spend the holidays in the district, or on the other hand those wishing to visit Whakatane for a break. It means that intending travellers will have the long way via Rotorua. Early Roaring Deer stalkers in the Minginui district report that number of deer have commenced roaring in that district. This area is recognised as one of the earliest in which roaring commences. At Ruatahuna one party reports that the condition of those shot are excellent. The local prospects are not very bright at present.

District High School Committee The committe representatives of the Native School at Murupara made a brief trip to Hamilton during th£ week to finalise arrangements with the firm of Booth MacDonald to have installed a deisel driven water pumping equipment. When the new plant is in operation the water problem of the school will be overcome and also abundant water will be available for the swimming baths when they are built.

Interest is centred on the P.W.D.’s activity in the “dry wash.” At present mechanical shovels, crushers etc. are preparing metal for road projects in the Galatea area. The need for some of the back roads to be metalled has been felt for a considerable time but it looks as if the matter will be in hand within a short space of time.
