CONCERT AND DANCE

BRIGHT AWAKERI GATHERING ASSISTING SCOUT FUNDS A bright concert and dance in aid of the local Scout Troop funds, took place in the Awakeri Hall last Saturday evening, and attracted a large and appreciative audience. The concert was on the main devoted to items by soloist players from the Whakatane Band, who will be taking part in the Easter Band Contest at Te Arohaj These young players gave a splendid performance and are to be congratulated. The concert session lasted from 8 until 10 p.m. and Mr Colin Dean acted as announcer. All items were thoroughly enjoyed, particularly those by Mr Ken Jarrett (cornet solo), Mrs Norman Carter (solos), Mr Hans Hauesler (humour), and Mr J. Rust (conjuring). Another pleasing brace of items was supplied by an octette of girl singers from the Awakeri school who had been trained by Mr Anderson the headmaster.

The dance was likewise a great success with Mr T. Bell as M.C. Music was supplied by Mr Horrie Waite, and the whole programme went with a swing from beginning to end. A tasteful supper was served by the members of the ladies committee.

At an appropriate interval Mr C. J. Cooper, on behalf of the Scout Committee, thanked the performers and also the members of the Whakatane Rover’s Crew who had shouldered the staging of the concert at the invitation of the Band. Hauesler; E Flat Bass Solo, ‘ln a Celler Cool’ Peter Ward; Solo, ‘l’ll Walk Beside You’ Mrs N. Carter; Conjuring interlude, Mr Jack Rust and Mr H. Hauesler; Pianoforte Solos, Mr Horrie Waite.
