The Monte Carlo waltzes were most popular, also the “Broom Dance.” A delicious supper was served by the ladies. Dancing concluded at a late hour with the playing of the National Anthem. Cats Get “Flu”

A highly virulent and infectious epidemic of gastic influenza is sweeping the cat population of Wellington, with an attendant high mortality rate. “People think their cats are being poisoned, but such is not the case,” said a clinic official at the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Rnimals. “We have had a large number of cats brought to us jn the last fortnight, suffering from . the sickness. Cats which do not receive treatment do not usually recover. The first indication that a cat is sickening for gastric influenza is that it refuses food.” Similar outbreaks occurred all over the world from time to time and were usually mroe prevalent in the summer months, it was stated.
