ACTIVITIES IN THORNTON At the February meeting of the Thornton branch of the Y.F.C. Mr G. Colebrook gave a very interesting lecture and demonstration on soldering. Mr Colebrook also gave several useful hints on soldering and saddlering repairs, also how to make hemp thread. A cricket match was played against Waimana Y.F.C. the result being Waimana 68 runs, Thornton 104 runs. Thornton were the winners by 36 runs. On March 19 the annual meeting was held in the Thornton Hall. The following officers were elected:— M. Law, chairman; J. M. Law, secretary; A Martin, treasurer; Mr A. H. Adams, senior advisory member; Mr W. T. Law and Mr S. H. G. Jackson, advisory members; Mr D. B. Currie, auditor; T. Mexted, vicechairman; J. Jones, club press reporter. - •
The treasurer’s report and balance sheet showed a credit balance of £42 15s 6d. Mr H. White, District Chairman, Mr E. R. Marryatt, District Secretary, and Mr J. Cain, Waimana club, were present. Mr White and Mr Marryatt both spoke and congratulated the club on its fine shewing during ths past yS5f, General business was dealt with which included the receiving of a cheque for wool which was donated by local farmers, the net proceeds amounting to £22 18s 9d. This amount is to be divided between the club and the local Boy Scout troop. The meeting closed with supper.
