RETURNING WORKERS INCREASE OUTPUT

Vauxhall Motors, of Luton, England, were one of the United Kingdom firms forced to close down by the recent power cuts. Within two days of their re-opening on March 3, the workers had achieved an output in excess of the production target. During the day 44 cars, 23 vans, and 96 trucks—a grand total of 213 —were built, compared with the schedule of 208. Sir Charles Bartlett, Managing Director of Vauxhall, in a special message of appreciation broadcast to employees over the firm’s loudspeaker system, praised them also for the fine attendance despite the blizzard which had produced snow over one foot deep in the Luton area.
