“Comfortably Intoxicated”
When a letter in which the term “pickled” was used by the writer in reference to her own condition was under discussion in the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Christie asked counsel for a definition of the term, states the Gisborne Herald. “I should say that ‘comfortably intoxicated’ would express the usage of the term,” replied Mr J. S. Wauchop. His Honour thanked counsel, explaining that he had not heard the term used in that connection before.
