MURUPARA PARS
Travel De Luxe . . The keenness of one Murupara family and their friends to attend the big gymkhana on Saturday caused much amusement among spectators when they arrived in style and good spirits after a fourmile drive, very dusty and dry. It was a case of all aboard the farm tractor and trailer and away we go . . . As one member pf the party said: Well we simply had to get Inhere and we did. New Addition
While the local baker worked till the early hours of Saturday morning turning out pies and cakes for the sports he was apparently too busy to notice the Stork hovering around. The new addition was a fine bonny girl. Girl Guides
Started only a month ago the Girl Guide movement in this district is gaining a good membership.' To raise funds for the company the leaders conducted a guessing competition, the winner being Miss B. Willbond.
Shooting Competition A shooting competition conducted by the R.S.A. at the Galatea Sports on Saturday was won by Mr Dick Yeoman, of Whakatane, who defeated the local shooter, Mr Warwick in the shoot off for the prize. Murupara Domain
Set aside in the centre of the Murupara township in some sixteen acres of land as the domain! What could be more fitting than a lovely area for recreation and sport: What is the possibilities pf such an area set aside as a domain. Today all we see is clumps of gorse and a wilderness. The apathy with which the Domain Board treats its duties is not becoming of the township. Football, sports, galas and all entertainments could take place in this area if some one alive to its value would put the Board in motion.
Doctor’s Appointment Recently the Health Department appointed to Te Whaiti Dr. VNorth who has taken up residence and practice. There is no doc/bt that the Department’s action will be appreciated by the community generally and the appointment will be an immense advantage to the district. Prospective Business Sites
It is understood that several interested parties are endeavouring to secure building sites in Murupara for business purposes. At the moment the Crown Lands Department has not„signified' its intention as to , what sections if any will be available to would-be applicants. Rain Badly Needed
The district’s need of rain is not only reflected in the parched pastures but also in the low level of many water tanks. Recently some settlers were noticed transporting * 4 gallon drums of water from the river for their household requirements. \ '
Only 2000 Rounds of Ammo!
Some Whakatane shop assistants were staggered when recently a local inhabitant casually asked for 2000 rounds of .22 ammunition. Even his explanations that they were required for the R.S.A. to run a shooting gallery at the local sports brought him no success.
Fishing Season Prospects The local Fishing Lodge at Murupara is completely booked for the forthcoming Easter holidays, mostly by keen anglers from all /parts of the Nprth Island. '
