Dominion’s Reputation
New Zealand has acquired a re-, putation in Glasgow as a land of strikes, judging by the experience of Professor G. A. F. Knight, the new professor of Old Testament studies at the Theological Hall, Dunedin. In replying to the addresses of welcome after his induction in the function held at Stuart Hall recently, Professor Knight said that when he knew he was going to the Dominion he went to the Glasgow Library in order to obtain as much information about the counti’y as he could. He explained that v/hen he got to the end of the list of books about New Zealand he found a note to the effect that “further information about New Zealand will be found under ‘strikes’.” The professor’s further remarks were lost in the laughter of the audience.
