UNSATISFACTORY SUPPLY
MILK SERVICE TO HOSPITAL continued bottle losses In the course of his report to the Whakatane Hospital Board yesterday, the Storeman-Porter (Mr L. C. Richards) stated that the control over the milk supply to the hospital was still far from satisfactory. On an average some fifty bottles monthly were disappearing and there was need for a much firmer action in delivery and distribution.
The chairman moved that this subject together with several others of a more minor nature be referred to the Works Committee with power to act as early as'possible in the matter.
Mr McCready objected strongly and moved that the question of the milk supply be dealt with then at the meeting. His amendment was put to the meeting and lost.
Mr McCready: I’m heartily sick of the shelving of this milk question. We have had it before us for three months now and are still prepared to procrastinate again. I tell you that I won’t attend the meeting. It’s not good enough for us to keep handing over duties to a committee of two or three. We should settle it here and now as a board. The motion was put to the meeting and carried Mr McCready dissenting.
Later in the meeting Mr McCready sought to reintroduce the discussion on the Storeman-Porter’s report claiming that with the milk question being referred to the committee, several other, issues had been side-stepped. He raised a point of order for “that reason.
The chairman carefully explained that when Mr McCready’s amendment was defeated, under the democratic system, the minority must accept the ruling of the majority, until such time as by eloquence or persuasion they could convince the majority and change their decision.
Mr McCready protested that under the motion members had been prevented from discussing important matters.
The chairman: I rule you out of order Mr McCready. ■ Mr McCready: We've side-tracked other things again by this method.
The chairman: The time to raise your point of order was when the report was being discussed—not now. I again rule you out of order. Mr McCready: I know you will.
