DANGER FROM FIRES

WHAKATANE Borough residents have been furnished recently with two drastic illustrations of the danger from scrub and grass fires. The last summer weather in the Bay of Plenty has ever been a dangerous period as far as fires are concerned, and in order to enlarge the safety margin, Government and Local Body restrictions have been built up to the most stringent level. Fires may not be lighted in either Borough, County or Ohope without special permission. A breach of this regulation means a heavy fine. Residents should not only bear this in mind but should co-opar-ate towards its enforcement in the common welfare of all.
