FORECAST ON TYRES

Maintenance in 1947 of most of last year’s huge tyre demand is forecast by P. W. Litchfield, chairman of the board of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. U.S.A. He forecasts that U.S. exports will rise from 800,000 to 1,000,000 tyres in 1947. He expects the 1947 passenger car tyre demand to be 67,000,000 against 68,000,000 last year; truck and bus tyres may reach 12 million against 14 million last year; farm tyre demand is forecast at 4,000,000 against 4,500,000. He bases the car demand figure on production of 5,000,000 cars in 1947, twice the probable 1946 total, and the resultant change in the demand from replacement to original equipment. In the first six months of 1946, output of truck, bus and passengercar casings totalled 38,439,843. This included the 30,737,117 passenger car tyres, and 7,702,726 truck and bus tyres. Car tyre output was a record. Objective of 69,200,000 for the year is also a new high.
