WHAKATANE v OPOTIKI AN EXCITING FINISH On Saturday Whakatane travelled to Opotiki, the “A” team taking part in the Dunlop Shield and the “B” team in the Watt Cup. Play in the “A” team resulted in a very exciting and close finish, Opotiki winning by only one game. The result of play being Opotiki 8 sets, 18 games, Whakatane 8 sets, 17 games. A feature of the day’s play was the decisive win by lan Wylds who in the men’s singles beat J. F. White in two straight sets 6—3, 6—3, and the win by P. Bryers in defeating L. Dain also in two straight sets 6—2, 6—3. Play results were as follows:
