TOWN CLERK'S REPORT KOPEOPEO SETTLEMENT In a letter to the Borough Council last Monday evening the Housing Construction Department advised that as the probable number of State units in Whakatane will approximate 200, consideration should be given to the desirability of making provision for a shopping centre in King Street near the junctions of Alexandria' Avenue or Salonika Street.
The Town Clerk submitted a draft letter in reply which stated interalia:— *
(a) That the tendency to have the shopping premises .irregularly scattered along the full length of King Street is undesirable.
(b) That the present greatest density of shopping facilities at the corner of King and James Streets, should be extended and consolidated.
(c) That having due regard to the present facilities offering, it is conceded that there is scope for the provision of limited number of shops of the following nature: Butcher, hairdresser and tobacconist, chemist, boot repairer.
The Council gave formal approval to the letter as drafted.
