DRUNKEN DRIVERS
NEW TEST METER Michigan State police has started installing in their patrol cars a device called an “intokimeter,” with which they can make immediate tests to determine if the arrested motorist is intoxicated. They say the device will have two results: Proving innocent by reason of sickness, injury or other causes, motorists who appeared to be under the effects of alcohol while driving; and proving guilty those who really are. In taking the test the person being examined blows up a small rubber balloon attached to the device, and the officer checks the time it takes for a red fluid in a glass to become colourless. The time lapse, indicates the extent of intoxication according to the percentage of alcohol by weight in a person’s blood stream.
