RICH YOUNG PEOPLE
WRY SCOT’S COMMENT The custom in the United States of publishing the annual salaries of film stars should provide interesting materials for the historians of the future. To those of us who read them now they provide a wonderful incentive to get on in the -world. It must fill the mind of the toiler with joy as he relaxes after his labours and discovers that a group of young ladies with an average age of 23 are making over £20,000 a year. Hollywood, he will rejoice to see, has long endorsed the principle of equal pay for women. If a woman is worth £20,000 a year, then Hollywood pays over the sum without demur. We really are living in a democracy when a girl of 21 can work so hard that she can earn more than the President of the United States. That is something which .some of the critics of democracy tend to forget.—The Scotsman, Edinburgh.
