OVERLOADED 'BUS

MATATA PROPRIETOR FINED VEHICLE SHORTAGE BLAMED In the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., the Transport Department (Inspector Sharp) proceeded against Rugby Augustine Howell in that on October 25, he contravened his heavy traffic license by carrying 12 more passengers than he was entitled to do.

Mr Barry who defended pointed out that on the occasion named, defendant’s driver was leaving for Matata at 2 p.m. and found 12 extra passengei’s. In view of the fact that he was due back to do a school run, he took the extra passengers, as he would be unable to manage a return trip. Counsel added that his client was doing his utmost to secure ah extra ’but but had so far been unsuccessful. Fined £3 and costs 27s 6d.
