“On behalf of every one of the 180,000 citizens’ who live in this somewhat battered suburb of London I send you our warm and grateful thanks,” says the Mayor of Willesden Borough, Mr Stanley Scott, in writing to the Mayor of Auckland, Mr Allum, acknowledging the receipt of gift food parcels. “No words of mine,” he adds, ‘can convey the keenness of the anticipation with which aged and needy persons in this borough look forward to the distribution of the parcels.”
