Poultry Board Election
£ Complaint has been made in Auckl land at the difficulties confronting a i prospective candidate for the New I Zealand Poultry Board, and it is 5 claimed that the amending legislation passed last season had not improved the position. For the Auckland district, where there are 7000 registered poultry keepers, Mr H. E. ■ Whitford, of Henderson, desired to oppose the sitting member at an election by postal ballot next month, but he claimed he had been denied the use of the Department of Agriculture's complete roll of eligible voters, and that the two retiring members seeking re-election had an unfair advantage in that they have access to lists complied officially. He had asked the Prime Minister to intervene and order ballot papers to be posted to all entitled to vote, and to nullify the weighted vote in favour of large poultry keepers. Mr Fraser has not yet replied. Concession Card's Long Life Bought in the early days of the war, a universal concession ticket on the Wellington city tramways was used up recently. In the meantime, i with two rides uncancelled, it had travelled to Greece, spent thu*ee years with its owner, a Karori soldier, in a German prison camp, returned to New Zealand via Britain, and provided one ride, went away to Japan with J Force replacements, and returned to New Zealand a second time recently. During its travels two New Zealand postage stamps had adhered to its back when its owner got wet, and the tramway conductor eyed it dubiously when it was tendered for the last time. The' owner intends to treasure it as a memento.
