Among the visitors from Australia attending the National Sale at Trentham was Mr Walter Devon of Sydney, who some years ago, plied his profession of rabbit trapping in the back blocks of the Taumaranui district, and while there incidentally won an overseas lottery prize of £50,000. The main object of his visit was to secure additional thoroughbreds for his Sydney racing team. Nearly Ready The Coronach—Legality representative, Balgowan, who last year registered the N.Z. record of 2min 16 3-ssecs. in the Herries Memorial Cup,-Te Aroha, is putting in fast work at Takanini. He will doubtless compete at Te Aroha on February 22 in the Herries Memorial.
The Wanganui Cup Entries for the Wanganui Cup, of one mile and a half, include Flying Gold, Beau le Havre and Bright Fox. Special interest will be taken in the running of the last named, who ranks as New Zealand’s fastest weight-carrying hurdler. The Top Price
The top price, 3000 guineas, on the first day of the National Sale, was realised for the yearling colt, by Foxbridge—Konneta, Mr W. R. Kemball, of Melbourne, being the purchaser. Konneta, winner of two races at Ellerslie, is by Bulandshar from Sunny Hours by Leighton— Les Vegas by Boniform.
