TEN COMMANDMENTS
RULES AND REGS. FOR JAPAN WEEPING AND WAILING The article printed below was forwarded home by a soldier at present with the Occupation Force in Japan. (We might explain that the ‘stamped hundreds’ refers to Japanese money which the men are forbidden to use, whilst the ‘housegirl’ is another of “Officers” for the use of.)” 8.C.0.F. Commandments And it was in the year two, of the Atomic age, when there appeared in Japan, a mighty vision, and all who saw it, knew and • understood. And it came to pass that these things were written, so that all who should come after, would know, and understand. 1. Thou shalt not blackmarket. 2. Thou shalt not use stamped hundreds. 3. Thou shalt not love thy housegirl better than thy wife. 4. Thou shalt have no leave.. 5. Thou shalt have no amenities. 6. Thou shalt rely on the Australian Amenities Service. 7. Thou shalt not trespass in the American zone. 8. Thou shalt not envy thy American brother. 9. Thou shalt not have fresh vegetables for weeks and weeks. 10. Thou shalt not steal the Sgt’s. beer. ' And when these things came to pass, there was a great wailing and gnashing of teeth in the land of Nippon, and the afflicted took their pens from their pockets and did write to the newspapers. And there was a great consternation, and gloom was upon them, but the position remained even the same. Then it came to pass that a great Empire heard of these tribulations and did send an Amenities Mission from Australia, and the Mission Fathers made a long report and nothing happened. Then it was that the Great Prophet declared “I’ve Had It,” and packing up his goods, he departed.
