PERILOUS JOURNEY
Thirty-eight hundred miles of water lie between Hawaii and New Zealand, and yet the Polynesians in their frail canoes were making this perilous trip at a time when Europeans were afraid to venture out even to cross the Atlantic at its narrowest point. The stars guided the Polynesians in these ventures across the great ocean.
