THE EGOIST

I am the Almighty pronoun T, I have no other Gods but me And consider it my sovereign right, To worship my own diety. I always get, and never give One iota unto others; To my mind it’s a waste of breath, To say all men should be brothers; If everybody was like me, There’d be no such thing as poverty, For I am a self made man you see. There’s nothing succeeds like success If your wise, and do not make a mess By being generous and kind, Such fools are always left behind By those who make the winning post, Their materialistic Holy Ghost. But all along life’s track, one sees The wrecks of egoists like these, Who relied entirely upon self, And humpty-dumptyed off the shelf, A patent wayside warning token, Of pride ignominuously broken, Helpless, till kindness they despised, Lends them a hand once more to rise, May be to find they’re not so wise Or confident upon their feet, . As when they walked with selfconceit. May such knowledge save, many hereafter, From the derisive demoniac laughter Reserved for souls sold for self, That had to leave material wealth, For an eternity of regret, Who abandoned the verb ‘to give’ to get. H. SERGANT.
