THE OHIWA CAR-TRAP

SINCE publicity was given the recent accident at Ohiwa, when a car became embedded in the sand and was caught by the incoming tide, we have learnt of no less than three other narrow escapes under similar circumstances. All three concern the efforts of visiting motorists to explore the further reaches of the beach by motoring along its length to the north head of Ohiwa, where the sand though showing a solid surface is of a shifting nature as the tide floods. Cars cannot be left parked in this belt for any length of time without danger of sinking. It would be wise to post notices at vantage points along the settled end of the beach warning motorists of the danger of going too far , without some knowledge of the sand formation at the far end.
