Smart!
On a recent visit to a West Coast town in the South Island I found the residents still chuckling over an incident that had discomforted the local police force. They tell me the latter had put in some smart work in recovering a set of stolen motor tyres and had told the owner he could reclaim his property by calling at the police station and collect ing it. When he arrived, however, he found that some audacious thief had beaten him to it.
Unusual Fish Ashore
An unusual fish, possibly a cowfish, which lives in northern waters, was washed ashore on the beach near Camerons, on the West Coast (South Island) last week. The fish has no tail, which is unusual, but has two rear fins measuring eight feet from tip to tip. It is six feet long and about 18 inches thick. The fish has a black back, but is pure white along its stomach. None of those who have seen the fish have been able to identify it, though a Greymouth man who has fished at the Bay of Islands, suggests it would be a cow-fish. i
