AGED WATCHMAKER

NINETY SECOND BIRTHDAY Mr J ohn Petrie, of Pembroke Road, Stratford, who_ celebrated his ninety second birthlay last week, looks back on more than 70 years as a watchmaker. He is still able to give expert attention to clocks. Mr Petrie was born in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, and when he was 16 he began apprenticeship with his father, William Petrie. In 1800 his grandfather had laid foundations of the family business, which now i 3 being carried on half a world away. Mr Petrie and his wife came to New Zealand in 1895, and opened their first shop near the Club Hotel, Stratford. In 1937 they celebrated their golden wedding. -
