SALVATION ARMY’S NEW HEAD
COMMISSIONER ASTBURY INDEFINITE STAY IN THE DOMINION A recent arival in the Dominion is Commissioner Ranulph M. Astbui’y, of the Salvation Army, who has been given charge of the Salvation Army in New Zealand. The Salvation Army did a satisfactory job all over the world during the wax’, said the commissioner when interviewed. There were many difficulties, as, for instance, when the Germans occupied Holland and would not recognise the Salvation Army. This had been overcome, however, by the Army’s changing its name and dropping its distinctive uniform. The commissioner would like New Zealand to be x’epresented in something akin to a special wing in the new Salvation Army headquarters in London, which is to be built. The former headquarters was destroyed in the blitz. He hoped that New Zealandei’S would respond well to the appeal for funds for the headquartei’s.
Commissioner Astbury said that he was looking forward to his stay in New Zealand, but he did not know how long his term would be.
