Upside-Down Shirts

Whether by accident or design, some shirts which were among the Christmas display in a Christchurch shop had a somewhat strange appearance. The motif of the pattern is a number of aeroplanes scattered here and there on the material and superimposed on a background of the world’s countries in outline. Perhaps the shirtmaker was slightly absent-minded when the cloth was being cut out and made up, but whatever the reason the whole pattern is upside down and presents a picture of aircraft indulging in inverted flying in a topsy-turvy world. Perhaps the maker of the shirts was offering them as a commentary on present conditions. •
