CHRISTMAS PARTIES

SCHOOL BREAKING-UP The Waimana Hall was the scene of a gay school breaking-up dance and social. The main attraction for the children was a beautiful Xmas tree laden with gifts. The stage was tastefully decorated with bowls of flowers and streamers A great number of the children wore party frocks with fancy dresses and paper hats, which added to the gaiety of the party. The Grand March opened the proceedings, all children taking part. Carols were sung by the children, and the Nigger Minstrel item and modern choruses and the play ‘Wedding Bells’ were repeated at this function.

Several tiny tots of the Primers acted a play “Little Kittens Mittens” very well and received a great ovation. About 10 p.m. Father Christmas arrived, and wished the children and all present a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and then began on the job of presenting gifts to the children from the tree. During the function, Mr N. Eagle presented the Calf Club certificates to children who had been successful in the Calf Club competitions. The children and adults enjoyed ice creams and sweets, just before supper, which was served by the school committee and helpers. The music for dancing was played by Mr and Mrs King. Mr Angus carried out the duties of M.C. There were Monte Carlos and Novelty dances for children and adults. The happy evening concluded with the National Anthem. Nukuhou North

The Nukuhou North School was gaily decorated for the Christmas tree party and dance. The majority of the children were in fancy costume and all present were presented with paper hats of all colours and shapes. The children sang carols, presented plays and performed folk dances and stick games, all being greatly enjoyed. Ice credms, soft drinks and home-made sweets were distributed to all. Santa Claus arrived at an early hour and presented gifts from the decorated Christmas tree to all children present, and when he had completed his task, he wished all the compliments of the season. Santa was given three hearty cheers.

Mr S. Mottram, during the function, presented certificates to children who had Won them in Calf Club competitions. Mr R. Macdonald also pi’esented the Macdonald Cup to Jim Black for the best reared and handled calf, it being the second year in succession that he has won this trophy.

The dance music was supplied by Mrs King and Mr A. Bell played an extra, while Mr P. Clark acted as M.C. A most pleasant evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
