Freak Asparagus
Among a collection of freak plants at the Bay of Plenty Times Office is an asparagus grown on the property of Mrs H. Croasdale, of Bethlehem. The stem of this stalk of asparagus, which has assumed gigantic proportions, is fiat and measures two inches across. The top portion is curved, the total length being in excess of four feet. Last Mile the Hardest Two recent shipments of goods to a New Plymouth importer, after having been brought from England to Wellington in less than 40 days, took more than 50 days to travel from Wellington to New Plymouth. The importer stated that these shipments were very badly needed. In future, he intended to have the bills of lading made out to Wellington, and have the goods railed to New Plymouth. This would save time, but would mean that the ultimate price of the goods would be higher.
