FUN IN THE OFFING!
TANEATUA’S PROGRAMME
XMAS AND NEW YEAR Once again, Taneatua plans to step itself out to mark the Christmas and New Year festivities, with community celebrations, which this year, are expected to be bigger, better and brighten than ever. The programme as laid out appears to be very attractive, and should provide plenty of fun for children and adults alike. On Christmas Eve, a parade of children in fancy dress, together with decorated prams, tricycles, etc., will take place through the streets, decorated for the occasion. Father Christmas has been contacted, and has agreed to be present, and will lend all the age-old romance to the proceedings. On New Year’s Eve, an even more comprehensive programme is proposed. In the late afternoon, activities will commence with a slow bicycle ‘race’ and will continue with a wheelbarrow derby, from Moody’s gate to the centre of the town. (Yoo-Hoo, ever active wherever a scoop is in the offing reports that disguised as an empty bottle he has for some time been surreptitiously watching intending contestants training regularly, and reducing weight by the cartload). In the evening, the adults will take over with a fancy dress parade, which will lead through town to the hall where the costumes will be judged, the old year danced out, and - the new one danced in to the accompaniment of all the usual gaiety.
