HOME BOUGHT FOR ORPHANS
PHILANTHROPY OF BRITISH SAILOR Twenty-five roomed Linwood Manor, Market Rasen, Leicestershire, has been bought by a 23 year old anonymous British merchant seaman to house 17 orphan children. The young sailor, who was thrown out of an orphanage at the age of 14 and told to earn his living by selling papers, was so horrified by instances of neglect of orphans revealed by the recent official inquiry that he has given his £SOO savings and has mortgaged himself to pay £l5O annually for 20 years in order that other orphans shall have a good home. The deeds of the manor will be held in the names of' the children. They have moved into the building from another orphanage to which the young philanthropist has already made considerable donations. The manor, which stands in charming grounds, will be run by a friend of the sailor.
