PAGING MR RIPLEY
In Newport, Rhode Island, a statue was once erected in honour of Michele Felice Corne —because he ate a tomato. Corne is the first man known to have munched this vegetable, proving to the world that the formerly-termed “love apple”—presumed to be poisonous—was a wholesale and delectable food.
