Pakaahu Hot Springy ' With the termination of Mr C. Honeycoihbe’s lease of the area adjoining the Pakaahu Hot Springs, Awakeri, the County Council is now directing its attention to the growth of noxious weeds on the reserve. ■ I Car and Truck Speed The f County Council has decided to approach the Commissioner of.. Transport asking, if it was proposed in future to permanently restrict motor car speed on other than comcrete or sealed roads to 40 m.p.h., which was the speed the Council favoured cjn such roads. Taneatua Footpaths
In response to the recent advertisement calling for tenders ( to re.construct the footpaths at Taneatua, only one tender was received—for 1 16/- per square yard. The Council . decided to reject the tender and to seek authority from the Main High- j ways Board to construct the footpath with its own staff labour. •' ■ Xmas Parcels The flow of Christmas parcels, letters and telegrams has commenced , at the Post Office, and at almost any time of the day, aj queue can lie en- . countered just inside the door, waiting with Christmas presents to post away. In the mailroom, the pace has - also increased to cope with the flow of inward and outward mail, which. L is expected to reach its peak within., the next few days. , - Tribal Executive Dance The Ngatiawa Tribal Executive staged a very successful dance in the Poroporo Hall last Saturday evening. A Targe crowd, among which was represented many of the younger folk of the community, was present,. and the evening’ went from the start with a swing. Mr N. was Master of Ceremonies, whilst 'the Rhythm Vendors supplied ex-, cellent music for the occasion. A very tasty supper was served, and dancing concluded at midnight with the National Anhem. "
New Maori Warden A new Maori warden for the Nga-tiawa-Whakatane district, in the person of Mr H. Ranapea, of Paroa, was >. appointed at the last meeting of the Ngatiawa Tribal Executive, which ~ took place at the weekend. Representatives of seven tribes were pre- ; sent, and sections of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement were discussed.
