INSTITUTE MEETING The December meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held recently in the Waimana Hall. Mrs F. J. Savage presided over a good attendance of members and several visitors. The singing of “Comrades and Friends” Opened the meeting, and was followed by singing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” It was decided to hold the Annual Flower Show as usual, and a Christmas party was planned for the children to be held on December 17. Mrs Priest was ■ welcomed as a new member. A most interesting letter was read from Mrs John Addison. During the afternoon Mrs Brian Burnett sang “Girl Of My Dreams” and “Making It Believe It’s You,” both songs being well received. The Golden Thread was “The history of,a very small Post Office, the Marlborough Post Office.” This paper was read by Mrs Robert lyardlaw. A most interesting debate was held, ‘The Home Woman or the Womam with a Career.’ Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wylde took the negative and were adjudged the winners, and Mrs McConnell Snr. and*Mrs R. White I the affirmative. Both sides spoke well, the negative side winning on the way the summing up was handled. The Roll Call was an exchange of Christmas gifts, and afforded a most pleasant interlude. The day’s competitions were well competed for; the following being the results: Best single flower, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs H. Bell 3. Best double flower, Mrs Stevenson 1; Mrs H. Bell 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Best rose, Mrs H. Bell 1; Mrs Martin 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Best vegetable, Mrs R. White 1; Mrs M. King 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Christmas mince meat tart, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs Wylde 2; Mrs F.
