A Great Race
The Canterbury Cup W r as a truly great race, and resulted in a heat between the Dominion’s best staler-, Golden Souvenir, 9.4 and the racing find of the year, Soneri 8.9, winner recently of eight races in succession. On the money machine the mare was favourite, but the public apparently forgot that she had not previously raced over a mile and a\ half, while Golden Souvenir had won, like, a champion and with top weights, over two miles.
