TO BE INVESTIGATED

MATATA CHILD’S DEATH HOSPITAL BOARD’S. ACTION A complaint from a Matat# resident regarding the death of a child patient in the Whakatane Hospital came before the Board yesterday at its December meeting. Pending full investigation by the Board’s Complaints Committee which is handling the matter and which has not as yet prepared its report, the chairman (Mr J. Mullins) refused to allow the matter to be discussed in open meeting. It was however decided to call a special meeting before Christmas for, the purpose of considering the complaint. In deference to the chairman’s request we are holding the details of the complaint until the special meeting takes place, and when with both sides more apparent the whole position can be viewed in .a fairer light. Our report will then be published.
