Chewing Gum in Court
A woman witness who was chewing gum earned the displeasure of Mr Justice Cornish in the Supreme Court at Greymouth, when inquired if she were nervous. When she replied in the negative his Honor pointed out that she was doing something he would not allow a male witness to do in the Court. Asked if she knew to what he was referring, the woman answered in the affirmative. “Then you can possibly stop it without choking yourself,” His Honor said.
