The meeting opened with the Institute Song and Aspirations. Apologies were received and one new member enrolled/ The business included various suggestions for the Whakatane War Memorial and it was decided to leave the voting to the discretion of the delegates.

After the Golden Thread, “Women of Italy” which was read by Mrs Murphy, afternoon tea was served to the members. As it was the Xmas meeting the members’ children were entertained to afternoon tea and sweets. The Roll Call “How flowers effect some people” was interesting, as also was Mrs Fennell’s demonstration on the making of a hospital box of flowers. The members then enjoyed a walk round the garden. Mrs McDonald invited the members over to view her sunken rose garden, which is indeed a hidden beauty spot of Whakatane. The serving of afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
