LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
WHAKATANE BRANCH Mrs Metcalfe presided over a very good attendance at the last meeting of the League of Mothers, opening the proceedings in the customary manner by reading the Rules and Objects of the League. All joined in the League Prayer and the- Lord’s Prayer. A very nice gesture was the presentation of a shoulder spray to each one present. Mrs Lysaght gave the thought for the month “Children have more need of models than critics. Youth replies to the'critic. Do not preach to me. What you are doing is speaking so loudly I cannot hear what you are saying.” As it was a social afternoon many delightful items were contributed. Mrs Mackley delighted all present by singing two solos being ably accompanied by Mrs Schofield. Mrs Hepburn gave two excellent recitations in her usual bright and breezy manner.
- A competition, guessing the names of cakes, won by Mrs Lysaght. Two violin solos played by Mrs Larmer, accompanied by Mrs Stewart, were much enjoyed. Mrs Schofield sang two lovely Negro spiritual songs. Mrs Metcalfe ably addressed all present expressing the wish to enrol many new members next year, and also extended seasonal greetings. Mrs Hogg thanked all who had .contributed such a splendid programme and presented a bouquet to each artist. As it was Hospital Day many generous gifts were donated. Afternoon tea was served and the singing of the National Anthem brought a very happy meeting to a close.
