WHAKATANE BOWLING CLUB PICNIC TOURNEY The fine weather prevailing over the weekend gave Whakatane bowlers a chance to make good use of the Apanui greens. Results of Saturday’s play were as under:— C. Shaw and Charters (s) 18; D. King, Compton, Martin and Burgess (s) 18 beat E. Gerring, E. J. Bell, C. Head and Harris (s) 13; Breckon, -J. Wilson, R. Wilson and Dixon (s) 18 drew with R. Gerring, C. Murphy (s) (holders) 2 beat Morpeth, McKenzie, Henderson and Littlejohn (s) (challengers) 11. Picnic Tourney On Sunday, a Picnic Tourney took place. Twenty-five teams (100 bowlers) were entered, the games being playeed in two sections. The following results were recorded:— No. 1 Section: R. Murphy 6 wins; L. Berg 4|; Smoljan 4; Palmer, Foster, Good, Mclsaac, Oswald, Opotiki A, Opotiki 3; Stevenson, Whitfield, King. 2J. No. 2 Section: Portman 6 wins; Howat, Manning 5; Harris, Dawson 4-1; Cradwick, Hunt, Opotiki C 3; Currah 2; Bennett I|-; Topp 1. Final: A. G. Cottrell, A. French, A. Coltman and H. J. Portman (s) (Rotorua) beat A. Burt, C. Hollis, S. McLeod and R. Murphy (s) (Whakatane).
