SOCIAL NOTES
TWO SUCCESSFUL DANCES Two successful dances took place recently in the Caledonian Hall, one sponsored by the Whakatane Indoor Basketball Club, and the other by the Caledonian Society. The former took place last Friday evening. The Premier Band supplied music, and Mr R. Sloane filled the position of Master of Ceremonies. The hall was appropriately decorated for the occasion with the Indoor Basketball Banner, and streamers, and supplied a distinctive setting. A delicious supper was served by the committee at an appropriate interval, and was very much enjoyed. Novelty dances were won by Mr Dick Kahui and Mrs Cairns, and Mr C. Hignett and Miss Tyssen. Mr N. Harris supplied an extra. On Saturday evening the Caledonian Society sponsored another of their now well known Inglesides. A good crowd including a number of older members of the Society was present, and the evening was spent in oid-time dancing. Once again the Premier Band was responsible for the music, whilst Mr G. Hurst was M.C. A delightfully tasty supper was served; music for two dances was supplied by the Pipe Band, and the Rev. H. M. Bell rendered a pipe solo. Dancing concluded at midnight with the National Anthem.
