A BLUNT CRITIC
COUNTIES ASSN. UNDER FIRE
CR McCREADY UNSATISFIED,
When the Nsw Zealand Counties’ Association advised the Whakatane County Council last week that the increased subscription was £5 ss, and that the new subscription over the whole 'year would be twenty guineas, Cr C. H. McCready was strong in his criticism of the activities of the Association, and the alleged abortiveness of its efforts to serve the farmers.
In some strongly worded remarks, he asked the Councillors if they were satisfied with the action of the Association in backing up the Farmers’ Federation. All had agreed, he declared, at the recent annual conference, to shelve the political issue until after the election. He personally contended that the Association was not giving the service which it should, and therefore he would not favour the increased levy. On the motion being put to the meeting, and carried, Cr McCready’s was the only voice dissending.
