RACING NEWS & VIEWS

He Surprised the Sports Shiek of Araby, a ten year old brother to Arabian Knight and Arabic, after running out for some years in the wide open spaces of Hawke’s Bay, was observed one day by the Hastings trainer, H. Greene. He quickly arranged a lease with the owner and in May last broke in the outdoor thoorughbred. Put into work he soon exhibited pace alike to his winning relations, and at the Napier Park meeting recently carried the colours for the first time. He took quite a prominent part in the Maiden Plate running a dead heat with Cape Malea. He fought out the issue with characteristic gameness, and is expected to win open handicap events before long. Another Coronach Winner Ascot Lad, a three year old Cor-onach-—Queen Brierly, who won the second division of the Bruntwood Handicap, owned by Mr R. S. Allen, of Auckland, and trained by Hector Gray, Talcanini. Queen Brierly, by King Lu—Lady Brierly and therefore a half-sister to the good stayer Master Brierly, was bred by Mr R. B. Plines, Te Aroha. Flown to America Last week eight two year olds were transported from Ireland by aircraft to America, a 24 hours journey. They are intended to be raced in California. Not Quite Ready Lord Barwon is working satisfactorily at Te Rapa, but was not started at the Waikato meeting. It is surmised that he is not yet deemed to be quite ready to take on the Auckland sprinters, that - just, now 'are at the top of their form. Heavy Taxation As the result of what is described as “The colossal taxation levied on breeders” one of England’s leading studs has decided to race all the stock it breeds in future. Perfect Peace The Hawke’s Bay candidate, Perfect Peaee, 3 years by CoronachAll Quiet, was a popular selection at Te Rapa for the Hautapu Hack Cup, in which, ridden by S. Green, she carried 7.11. She is a light lined chestnut filly, lacking a robust constitution, that should do better on a firm track, and likely to do better - as a four year old.
