SOME SIGNS OF THE TIMES

Some guys advertise, to make people wise, Re. an abnormal pleasant surprise. For those who decide to wisely invest In a proposition, absolutely the best, Such advertisements' are often disguisements, Of things that are not what they seem; Money traps, baited to catch,'aforstated, j Victims who discover how foolish they’ve been, To release a bird in ‘the hand for birds in the bush, And receive a rebound from the cush. Thousands are spent in the boosting of food, That might do thousands of underfeds good; Thus in his efforts to make both ends meet, The credulous, gullible man in the street Provides ammunition, and lengthens the range, Of New York’s Wall Street, London’s Exchange— The temples where money is Prophet, Priest, King, To whom their devotees their offerings bring, Of manual labour, brains, blood and tears, The grim aftermath of war stricken years, Laid on the altar of merciless gold, For which the sum total of crime was ne’er told— Gold that was won from* the bowels ; of the earth, Costing a thousand times more than its worth, God placed it there for the Devil to find, To prove good and bad in* the heart of mankind. Gold hoarded and. guarded in one solid mass, Won’t feed one insect that crawls in the grass; If released it would nourish thousands who perisff, But its owners their idol jealously cherish, And are ready to subject the world yet again, To another long innings of anguish and pain, Until like the swine in the Biblical Screed, Down Mammon’s steep incline they ruthlessly speed, To choke in the sea of insatiable greed. ? H. SERGANT.
