THE MAORI RACE

NATIONAL PARTY’S POLICY ONE LAW FOR BOTH RACES i ~ • , Asked by a Maori member of his audience to give some outline of what the National Party was prepared to do in the interests of the Maori race, Mr W. Sullivan M.Pq at his meeting last Monday evening said that his Party’s policy had been formulated in collaboration with the leaders pf the' Maori race. They were determined that there would be one law for Maori and Pakeha alike. ' ■.. " ,/' He had his own ideas with regard to the Maori youth. He would like to See established trade training schools w r hereby the .Maori . boys could be given ■ a chance to learn trades along the same lines as the Pakeha youth when they left school. These boys when they had been fully trained could be despatched out to employers under the friendly eye of a Vocational Guidence officer in order to assist forward industry as a whole.

He favoured the appointment of more District Nurses in order that the Maoris could obtain expert medical treatment in their own Pas. The housing policy as expounded by his own Party made for the Maori being able to own his own home in the same way as the Pakeha. Every help would be given where the Maori population was densest, by building decent homes /under the pre-fabrication system. The Maori of New Zealand who desired to become independent and free should be just as coficerhed about the socialistic trend of the present Government as the Pakeha.'; Thornton Seojjt Rally
